Operation Hearts & Home is a registered 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization
based in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.

We began in 2001 with a small group of intrepid volunteers who opened their homes to orphaned children from the Former Soviet Union for a summer vacation. Since our humble beginnings, over 250 children have been hosted for vacations away from institutional life with a loving family.  Over 60 children have received medical care including life changing corrective eye surgery. Operation Hearts and Home maintains extremely low overhead.  Thanks to our dedicated group of volunteers, the bulk of donations we receive are transferred directly to the orphaned children who need them.

Our Vision:
As our programs continue to expand from offering a deserving child respite and a vacation away from their orphanages, to medical treatments to improve their vision, repair cleft palates and more. are excited about our newest program for educational sponsorships.   We hope to offer our sponsored children, hope, education and a permanent loving connection with a family here in the USA.


We provide aid in these three key areas:

Medical
Partnering with local doctors in New York and in particular with New York Eye and Ear Infirmary,
children who were at at risk of losing their sight or hearing have received the opportunity to have their vision or hearing improved throuigh surgical proceedures, lazer treatment and corrective lenses. In addition, many children who have never been to a dentist in their lives are given the opportunity to receive dental care through our network of local volunteer dentists.


Educational
We believe children are inherently bright and interested in learning.
In some cases, because of their background or personal history, these childern are behind in school or even
unable to attend school simply due to a lack of shoes. From shoes and uniforms to school supplies
and tuition, we are helping as many childern as we are able to receive an education and thrive in school. We recently started our first sponsorship program in Ethopia, helping the boys of kolfe. Click here for more about this program.

Cultural
Orphaned children in particular need to feel a part of a family and a community. Through our cultural exchange programs, we give kids an opportunity to take a break from institutional life. We offer them an opportunity to live, laugh and enjoy the many cultural experiences we have in the New York area. Most importantly, we hope to connect these children with an American family, to develop a relationship that will love and support them through the years.

Although we are not an adoption agency, after hosting an orphaned child, some families have persued adoption on their own. In many cases however, the hosted children develop a loving connection to their American host family that continues long after their visit. Many children continue to be hosted by families year after year. Everyone involved is forever changed by the experience--it’s a two-way street.
